“Jemmy Morrill, the only survivor of a ship wreck on the Great Barrier Reef in 1846, lived with the Aborigines for seventeen years. He was the first white man in the vast north country. When commissioned by the Queensland sugar company to mark its centennial, I chose this true story unique to Queensland. Instead of showing him with the Aborigines, I decided to use the big Australian birds that live in that region, the Brolgas.”
